MEET KATHRYN
Dr Kathryn Blumke is an artist, poet, and scholar. In her career, she has had work exhibited in over twenty solo exhibitions and participated in over fifty group exhibitions.
Through ideas of Rosi Braidotti’s posthuman feminism, as Braidotti draws upon the writings of Deleuze, Blumke speaks of transformation in the making of her geometric abstract quilts as they thread together a body embodied and embedded in the materials including joyful becomings with Nature and a play with the sensation of colour, geometry, the watercolour medium and line.
Blumke has been shortlisted for the following awards: Sunshine Coast Art Awards, Blacktown Art Prize, Redland Painting Art Prize, Paddington Landscape Art Prize, National Works on Paper Award, Moreton Bay Art Awards, Churchie Art Awards, Tattersall’s Club Art Awards, Stanthorpe Regional Art Awards, and Fleurieu Art Prize.
Blumke holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy, a Master of Arts in Visual Arts, and a Doctorate in Visual Arts.
